Two children from each class are chosen to be 'Sports Leaders' and are responsible for helping to organise and implement sporting events throughout the school year. The Sports Leaders provide excellent encouragement to all children during the 'Santa Dash', which everybody thoroughly enjoys. They also assist with a diverse range of activities during 'Healthy and Active Fortnight', including: Football, Athletics, Multi-Skills, Gymnastics, Dance, Scooters, Go Karts and Zumba. They help to run stalls at the Christmas and Summer Fayres and do this with great dedication and commitment.
The first task for the Sport Leaders was to work with their year group peers to select a sportsperson for their class. The leaders had to engage with their classmates to select the person and then with the help of the class teacher encourage the class to research their sportsperson to find out facts that could then be displayed in each classroom.
The adopted sports people for this year are:-
Nursery - Lewis Hamilton - Motor Racing
Reception - Ellie Simmonds - Swimming
Year 1 - Sir Andy Murray - Tennis
Year 2 - Katarina Johnson-Thompson - Athletics
Year 3 - Callum Smith - Boxing
Year 4 - Laura Kenny - Cycling
Year 5 - Owen Farrell - Rugby Union
Year 6 - Toni Duggan - Football
Healthy Lunch Box Week.
The Health Champions worked with Active Sefton to reward children for the healthy swaps they made at lunchtime. The children and parents made a fantastic effort and all of the children were rewarded with a sticker.
St Robert Bellarmine Christmas Fayre
The Year 5&6 Sport Leaders also ran a stall at the school Christmas Fayre, their stall was 'Pin the nose on the Snowman.'
The four children were confident, polite, helpful and extremely organised. They had great fun and thoroughly enjoyed the responsibility of running their stall.
All of the children who took part received a sweet and those that managed to pin the nose accurately were rewarded with a Christmas chocolate lolly.
All of the staff were incredibly proud of these children and visiting adults also commented on how well they organised themselves.
Congratulations again Sports Leaders, what a busy day you had!
Year 3 - Active Sefton.
Year 3 are having a great time working with Active Sefton. They are learning all about how to live healthier, through eating a balanced diet and doing 30 minutes exercise per day.
Healthy and Active - 'Walk to School Day' Wednesday 12th June 2019.
The Sports Leaders made posters to advertise this event in school and on the day they collected the scores from each class.
We couldn't believe how many children from Nursery to Year 6 actually managed to walk in some way to school despite the awful weather!
In total 158 children walked to school - how amazing is that!
The 'Walk to School' champions were Reception.
Congratulations to them.
All children from Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 get an opportunity to attend swimming lessons during curriculum time. The progress of the children is reported termly and the children are closely monitored.
