At St Robert Bellarmine Catholic Primary School, our mission, “We are God’s work of art,” reflects our belief in the uniqueness, dignity and potential of every child.

We recognise that children learn and develop in different ways and that some children may need additional or different support at particular points in their school journey.

Our approach to SEND is built around high expectations, strong relationships, early identification of need and close partnership with children, parents, carers and professionals.

Meet our SENDCo

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs Davies.

If you have concerns about your child's learning, development, communication, emotional wellbeing or any other aspect of their needs, we encourage you to speak to us.

Your child's class teacher will usually be the best first point of contact. You can also arrange to speak to Mrs Davies through the school office.

We believe that parents and carers know their children best and we value working together to identify strengths, understand needs and agree appropriate support.

Our approach to SEND

At St Robert Bellarmine, SEND is everyone's responsibility.

We aim to identify potential barriers to learning as early as possible and ensure children receive the right support at the right time. Wherever possible, children with SEND learn alongside their peers and participate fully in the academic, social, spiritual and wider life of our school.

 

What happens if I am concerned about my child?

You do not need to wait for a diagnosis before speaking to us.

If you have concerns about your child's progress, learning, communication, behaviour, emotional wellbeing or development, please speak to your child's class teacher.

We will listen to your concerns, share what we are seeing in school and consider together what the next steps should be. This may include monitoring, adaptations within the classroom, additional assessment or support, or advice from our SENDCo or another professional.

Where SEND support is required, parents and carers will be involved in planning and reviewing that support.

Working with parents and carers

Partnership with families is central to our approach.

We aim to ensure parents and carers understand:

• their child's strengths and areas of need;

• the support being provided in school;

• the outcomes we are working towards;

• the progress their child is making; and

• how they can support their child at home.

We encourage families to share concerns, successes and information that may help us understand and support their child.

Support and Advice for Families

Sefton Local Offer

The Sefton Local Offer provides information for children and young people aged 0–25 with special educational needs and/or disabilities and their families.

It includes information about education, health and care services, activities, support groups and other services available across Sefton.

Sefton SENDIASS

Sefton SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIASS) provides free, confidential and impartial information, advice and support to children and young people with SEND and their parents and carers.
