Curriculum 2023

The St Robert Bellarmine

Curriculum

"We are God's work of art"

The curriculum at St Robert Bellarmine has been designed to provide a broad and balanced education for all of our children. It is built around the aims and objectives set out in the National Curriculum, which covers the core subjects: English, Mathematics and Science, and the foundation subjects: Computing, History, Geography, Art and Design, Design Technology, Music, Physical Education, Languages (Spanish), PSHE and Religious Education (including RSHE). The National Curriculum provides an outline of core knowledge around which teachers have developed a coherent and deliberately sequenced curriculum to promote the development of pupils’ knowledge and understanding. However, it is just one element in the education of every child. Along with academic growth, our curriculum has been carefully structured to support children in their development:  spiritually, socially and emotionally.

Ultimately, we expect all children to ‘Raise their Game’; we expect all pupils to develop expertise across the subject disciplines and be the best that they can be; we equip them with the knowledge and cultural capital they need so that as many pupils as possible attain age related or better standards in English and mathematics and achieve expected standards or better in the Foundation subjects and are fully prepared for their next stage of their education. We work closely with a range of curriculum experts who support us in a research-led approach to our curriculum design and implementation.

Overall, we have created a curriculum that while founded in knowledge, is also rich in cultural capital and experiences enabling us to broaden the children’s horizons as far as possible during their time in our school preparing them for the next stage in their education.

Curriculum design is a continual process of reviewing and refining. This is a process that we are committed to. See below for the list of external partners who work alongside us to shape the best possible St Robert Bellarmine curriculum for our children.
