Cultural Capital in Science

In the context of science, cultural capital refers to the knowledge, skills, and experiences that children bring to their learning and understanding of science.

Cultural capital is an important aspect of science education at St Robert Bellarmine because it can help to broaden children's horizons and enhance their knowledge of world around them. Children who have more cultural capital are more likely to have a deeper understanding and appreciation of science, which can motivate them to pursue science as a subject or career in the future.

We aim to develop cultural capital in our students by providing a range of experiences and opportunities to learn about science, such as trips to science museums, science fairs, visits from scientists and experts. We also promote cultural capital in science by providing books related to science topics in our graduate reading scheme, through guided reading and learning about eminent scientists from the past and present.

Overall, developing cultural capital in science is important for providing children with the skills and experiences they need to become informed, creative, and culturally aware individuals.
