Music and Communication and Language - The Christmas Nativity
Reception performed their play 'A Little Bird Told Me' for all their special people. They retold the story superbly and sang beautifully. Fantastic oracy and music skills on display . Great job!
Understanding the World - Recycling
The children have brought in pre-loved decorations from home to decorate our class Christmas tree. We think it is a great idea to recycle.
Literacy - Rosie's Walk
The children used the story 'Rosie's Walk' to create their own story maps. We then used the positional language from the story to create our own labels. Finally we took Rosie for a walk retelling the story using our own words and the language from the book.
Understanding the World
Reception visited Imagine That for their school trip this term. They had a wonderful adventure exploring, investigating, sharing and role playing with their friends.
Expressive Arts and Design - spider webs
The children used their newly acquired skills of hole punching and threading to create their individual spider webs. We had to concentrate very hard and listen carefully to instructions. We added our webs to the huge web and spider in class.
PSED - Friendship Fortnight
We have been studying the story of 'The Little Red Hen' and we discovered that the animals were not a good friend to the hen. We decided that when we baked bread not only did we need a baker hat, but we also needed to be a good friend and help. First we measured around the head of our friend, we had to make sure the hat was not too big or too small, it had to be just right. Next we had to wear our hats to bake the bread. We loved making and then kneading the dough. Finally we enjoyed the last part which was sampling the bread we baked for snack. We could have plain bread, bread and butter, or bread, butter and jam. What a delicious feast!
R.E. - Remembrance Day
The children created poppies in a variety of different ways and using a variety of different media. We gathered together for a special collective worship where we remembered the people who have worked hard to keep us all safe; we used some of our flowers to create our very own field of poppies.
PSED - Odd Sock Day
As part of our Friendship theme the children came to school wearing odd socks to celebrate individuality and uniqueness.
PSED - Friendship Fortnight
The children thought hard about what makes a good friend. They then created a heart for their chosen friend, giving it to them and saying why they had chosen them. We discussed how each person felt as they received their heart. We decided that not only is it a lovely thing to receive a heart, but it is a great thing to give away a heart to our friends.
Expressive Arts and Design - Bonfire Night
The children enjoyed using the oil pastels to create their own representations of the fireworks and night sky on Bonfire Night. Lots of spiral shapes and bold strokes were used.
Expressive Arts and Design - hole punching and joining
The children have been working on how to join 2 pieces of card together. They have learnt how to use a hole punch and how to thread wool through the holes, securing it with masking tape, joining the card together.
Oracy
We are using our curiosity cube this year to help us develop our oracy skills of speaking in full sentences. Each week someone is chosen to bring something in for the cube, we then try to answer questions in full sentences. We are using the sentence stems of I can see...... and I think .... because ....
Stay and Share - Magic Moment Day
The children loved sharing their setting with their special people and we all found our brave when we had to say goodbye to you all. We enjoyed sharing our news about our physical development achievements and we demonstrated the ability to listen to and celebrate the accomplishments of others.
Maths - Maths Monsters
In response to the story '1 Nose and 10 Toes' the children created their own Maths monsters using the resources made available to them. They then used their increasing mathematical knowledge and vocabulary to say something about their monster. They used the language of shape, pattern and numbers when describing their monster.
Maths - equivalence towers
Using the Numicon the children found a variety of different ways to make a number museum. They used the actual Numicon number shape to prove all their ways were correct. They learnt that all the ways needed to be different and they used the sentence frame .... and .... makes .... when discussing their own and their peers' museums.
Expressive Art and Design
The children have been completing an observational drawing of a sunflower. We looked at the shape and then used real artists pencils to create our own representations.
Physical development - fine motor skills.
We have been working on our fine motor skills and particularly improving our finger strength. We have been using spoons, tweezers and tongs to pick up conkers and Numicon pegs. We have had lots of mathematical fun in the process.
Hello Yellow day
The Reception children came to school wearing a yellow accessory to support young people's mental health.
Mathematics - Patterns (Part 2)
Using our knowledge of repeating patterns we created a pattern using the Lego, we used the pattern to create a pattern of seeds for the scarecrows to protect. We identified the repeat in each of our patterns. We know the repeat is the part of the pattern that we see over and over again.
Literacy - Leaf Man
We used this story to provide the stimulus to create our very own Leaf family. The children selected an autumn leaf, added features to create their own stick person.
Mathematics - Patterns
The children have been creating picture patterns, which then led onto them creating their own repeating patterns. They have been able to say what the whole pattern is and have been trying hard to identify what the repeat is in each of the patterns that have been created.
Mathematics - Data Handling
The children studied their eye colour and then created a pictogram showing the range of eye colours in their group. The children used their completed pictograms to explain to Captain Conjecture what they knew. They used the sentence STEMS of The ___ eyes has the most/least and More/Less children have ___ eyes.
Enchanted Forest
We had a lovely afternoon at the Enchanted Forest; some children new to our school enjoyed exploring all the different adventures there are to have and the children who have already experienced the forest while in Nursery had fun re-acquainting themselves with everything.
R.E. - Creation and Covenant
We have been talking about our families and sharing who lives in our houses with us. We know our families might be different, but they are all special and God loves us all.
Grandparent Day
We celebrated Grandparent day with our special visitors. We enjoyed showing them our indoor and outdoor settings and had lots of fun. Thank you all for coming.
