Sport Relief

Children wore sports clothes and mad hair for Sport Relief this year. They completed the daily mile and other sporting activities. They were very generous in their donations which go towards helping others less fortunate than ourselves. Well done Year 1!

Play in a day

Year 1 spent the day with Gemma from Altru Drama and worked together to produce and perform a play based on Traditional Tales. It was a great day and a great final performance!

World Book Day

Our whole school text was 'There's a Rang-Tan in My Bedroom' by James Sellick. The book encourages people to use sustainable palm oil to help save our planet. The children loved the story and the activities linked to it. They welcomed our new classmate - Oona.

Mosque visit

We went to visit our local Mosque to find out more about Islam. We were welcomed by the Imam who was very pleased we were there! The children were very respectful and learnt lots during their visit.

Other Faiths - Islam

Leila came to visit to talk to us about Islam. She talked to us about her beliefs and showed us how Muslims pray.

Science

We used our senses to investigate the case of the missing teddy!

Geography

We have been using maps and atlases to locate continents, oceans and countries.

Christmas jumper day

Year 1 do Christmas jumper day in style!

Lights, Camel, Action 2 - The Sequin!

Our amazing children performed for the whole school on Tuesday and raised the roof with their beautiful singing!

Trashion Show

Boys and girls modelling their amazing recycled clothes to create something new and wonderful. We have supermodels on our hands!

Children In Need

Our very generous children wore their pyjamas to school and gave a donation to raise money for Children In Need.

Starry Night Art

Year 1 used pastels to copy Van Gogh's famous Starry Night picture.

Anti-Bullying

Children performed the poem 'The Crayon Box That Talked' as part of their friendship assembly. What a beautiful place the world can be when we all work together and appreciate everyone's uniqueness!

Other Faiths - Judaism

We enjoyed welcoming Michelle to our school who came to talk to us about Judaism. We learnt lots about her faith and loved looking at all the things she brought to show us.

Anti-Bullying Day

Children wore odd socks to say 'NO' to bullying. We love our friends!

Collective Worship - Remembrance Day

Children gathered to pay their respects to our fallen heroes at 11am. We held a 2 minute silence and prayed for them and their families.

Maths - Trio of numbers

This week we have been exploring a trio of numbers. We looked at the whole-part-part model and used paper plates and counters to demonstrate partitioning and recombining. We looked for all possibilities and worked systematically.

Friendship week - anti-bullying performance

Altru-drama came to perform 'Agents of Change' for the whole school focusing on the issues of bullying. They helped us realise the important role we can all play if we witness bullying. We all agreed we are fully committed to being good friends and to also to do whatever we can, if we think someone is the victim of bullying.

Art

This week we spent some time looking at images of fireworks and firework pictures. Children used pastels, glue, glitter and sparkles to create their own pictures.

Multi-sports

10 children from Year 1 attended a multi-sports event. They competed as a team in 6 events and had a brilliant morning. They received the 'respect' award for their manners and politeness. AND they were also given the 'teamwork' award for the support and encouragement they gave to each other. Well done!

History - people from the recent past.

Children were asked to work with their families and produce a piece of research based on 'who was famous when nan and grandad or mum and dad were my age.'  We asked families to think about who was famous when they were 5 or 6 and use the internet, magazines etc to produce a piece of work together to bring in to school and discuss with the class. The work brought in was amazing! Well done everyone.

History Trip

We had a really interesting trip to The Museum of Liverpool to find out more about 'Who was famous when our nans and grandads were little' for our History topic. There was a John Lennon and Yoko Ono exhibition there where we found out more about their lives, beliefs and work. We also spent time finding out about Liverpool in the past. We all enjoyed Little Liverpool and had a dance with 'The Beatles' at the end!

Maths

This half term children are learning about Place Value in maths. We have been sorting, counting and representing objects. We have also been counting forwards and back, using number lines and solving problems.

PE - Gymnastics

In PE we have been using the gym equipment to climb, balance, roll, swing and jump. We love PE!

Art

We have completed our mission display in the style of Romero Britto - a Brazilian artist.
