Welcome to Year 3
But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Healthy and Active Fortnight - Week 2
Week 2 - Multi-sports, Cricket, Healthy Puddings, Keep Fit, Gymnastics and our Sports Day!
Healthy and Active Fortnight - Week 1
During our Healthy and Active fortnight we get the chance to try lots of different activities. Week 1 - Athletics, Zumba, Scoot Fit, Tennis, Healthy Habits and a Fun Run!
History - The Romans
During our trip to Chester, we learnt all about life in Roman times. We wandered through a market place, visited the Roman Baths, watched a battle and marched through the streets! We had an excellent day and learnt so much.
C.H.E.T
The Year 3 residential to CHET was an amazing experience. The children had so many adventures and loved curling, rock climbing, low ropes, night line, adventure course, pizza making, campfire, shelter building - to name a few!
R.E - Other Faiths Hinduism
Year 3 really enjoyed learning about Hinduism during our other faiths week. We learnt about Gods, festivals and family. Then we had the opportunity to have our hands painted with henna.
History - The Romans
Altru Drama came into school to give us a 'learn and perform' day where we learnt all about the Romans and then performed what we knew for the rest of the school. Excellent acting skills!
P.E and Games
Across the year, children have had the opportunity to take part in sporting competitions in school and against other schools. They took part with enthusiasm and had a great time.
Easter
Children took part in an Easter Bonnet and Garden competition. The entries were amazing! They also took part in our annual Big Lent Walk.
English - World Book Day
We wore green to celebrate World Book Day 2024. We read 'The Wild' by Yuval Zommer and completed work around caring for our common home.
Science - Wonderdome
We had a visit from the Wonderdome planetarium where we were transported on a cosmic journey exploring the wonder of our universe!
British Values - Tolerance and Respect
We have been learning about British Values and for our assembly, our class focussed on Tolerance and Respect. We learnt that tolerance means showing respect for others who are a different, race, religion, age or gender. And those who have opinions that aren't the same as ours. We are all entitled to our own views and we don't all have to agree on what we believe is best.
'Compassion and tolerance are not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength' - Dalai Lama
Equality and Diversity
We have been learning about equality and diversity. We read the story of the two monsters and how each thought that they were right and the other was wrong. We realised that just because one person thinks they are right, it doesn't always mean that the other person is wrong. We all need to remember, equality is when we make sure that everyone is treated fairly. It does not mean that everyone has to be treated the same.
Science - Escape Room
We had to work against the clock to try and escape the room using all of our science knowledge to help us solve the clues and unlock the boxes! We had to have excellent communication and work well as a team. Well done to those who managed to escape!
DT - Trashion Show
All children were challenged to take an old item and create a new stylish product from it to help tackle the problem of sustainability and recycling. We had tie-dye t-shirts, bags, capes and caps! It was a brilliant way to show that we can be more sustainable and friendly to our environment by recycling our old items into something new! Year 3 certainly knew how to show their style!
British Values - Tolerance and Respect
We have been learning about British Values and for our assembly, we focussed on Tolerance and Respect.
Inside Out Day
We all wore an item of clothing inside out to promote children's mental health awareness week. We wanted to show that how you look on the outside, doesn't always reflect what you are feeling on the inside. We know how important it is to talk to somebody if you are feeling sad. The theme this year was 'My Voice Matters'.
Design Technology - Levers and Linkages
We have been working on making puppets using sliders, levers and linkages. First we had to look at some products then design our own. We had to look at a front view and a back view of the puppet and we used moving and fixed pivots in our products. We had to evaluate our end product and say what we liked and what we would change next time.
Christmas
We had a lovely time leading up to Christmas. We had a jumper day, a visit from Father Christmas and a party!
Collective Worship
We gathered together for Collective Worship to think about Advent as a time for preparing and waiting to celebrate Jesus' birth on Christmas Day. We thought about what each of the candles on the wreath represent.
Year 3 went to the Cathedral to watch the annual Advent Service. The service told the story of Jesus' birth. We prayed and sang Christmas hymns together and joined in waving our stars. Year 3 walked respectfully to the altar and gave gifts generously to help other children who are not be as fortunate as ourselves. Thank you families for your thoughtfulness.
D.T. - Building bridges
We investigated how the shape and features of a bridge can affect how strong it is. We identified types of bridges and structural changes that engineers and architects make to increase the stability of structures. Then we worked in teams to create a structure that was strong enough to take the weight of a bottle of water, making any changes as we worked if needed.
Light - Science
In this topic, Year 3 investigated which materials would make the best shadow puppets. They worked in groups to decide which materials made the best the best shadow for their puppet and explained why. Then they made the puppet and judged it against the rest of the criteria in their challenge brief.
Children In Need - PSHE
Children gave a donation and wore pyjamas to support this year's Children In Need campaign
Friendship fortnight - PSHE
For this year's anti-bullying campaign we wore odd socks to celebrate our individuality and uniqueness. This was linked to all the work we did during our 'friendship fortnight.' This year, the theme was Make a Noise About Bullying. We talked about how important it is to talk to other people and to be inclusive and kind. We know how we can 'make a noise about bullying'.
Remembrance Day - Collective Worship
We gathered to remember and pay our respects to fallen heroes and their families. We talked about the significance of wearing a red poppy and why it was so important to remember. We said prayers then at 11am, reflected quietly during our 2 minute silence.
Say No To Racism - PSHE
We wore red and blue to say 'NO' to racism. We discussed how everyone should be treated fairly and that we should treat others the way we would like to be treated. Racism does not have a voice in our school community and we will not tolerate it in any form.
Harvest Festival - Collective Worship
Year 3 led our collective worship for the Harvest Festival. We gathered together to think about how our small actions can make a difference to other people our community. We thanked God for the farmers and their harvest, for the Sun and the rain. Most of all we thanked our families who donated lots of items for the foodbank to help people less fortunate than us in Sefton. Thank you so much everyone.
Spanish
As part of our Spanish lesson we learnt how to make churros. We mixed harina (flour), sal (salt) and agua (water) to make the dough. We mixed all the ingredients together then put the mixed in the 'churrera' and shaped them before frying them in acete (hot oil). We enjoyed them sprinkled with azucar (sugar) on top.
Girls Football Tournament at Goals - PE
Some of our amazing Year 3 girls represented our school at a football tournament held at Goals. They were commended on their team spirit and enthusiasm. Well done!
Hello Yellow - PSHE
To raise awareness of mental health we wore yellow and discussed ways in which we can have positive mental health. We talked about all the things that make us happy - there are lots! Our big message is show young people they are not alone with their mental health
Learn and Present - English/History
We spent the day with Altru Drama learning all about Stone Age Britain as part of our History topic. We helped write and then performed a play for the school based on what we had learnt in just one day. We are so proud of how well the children worked and performed! We have lots of budding actors on our hands!
School Council Elections - Democracy
This week our class voted on who they would like to be our class councillors for the year. Anyone who wanted to be considered completed an application form stating why they thought they would be the best person for the job. Applications were shortlisted and the remaining candidates presented their ideas to the class and held a questions and answers session. Congratulations to our two new councillors!
