Welcome to Year 3

But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.

Easter

Children made fantastic Easter bonnets and gardens for our competition. Well done to everyone who took part!  They also created some beautiful Easter cards for their families with important Easter messages inside them.

Big Lent Walk

Year 3 took part in the Big Lent Walk in the glorious sunshine. We discussed our Lenten promises and said a prayer to Our Lady to say thank you for the beautiful blossom tress, the daffodils and the new flowers we saw springing up in our spiritual garden.

P.E - Swimming

Congratulations to these swimmers who received certificates for their achievements this half term.

Comic Relief

We had fun raising money and sporting our mad hair for comic relief.  We had some very creative hairstyles!  Thanks you for your donations which will help people less fortunate than ourselves.

We are A.C.E!

We were lucky enough to have Dr Chris Scott and his colleague Phoebe from the University of Liverpool come to work with us. They were from the department of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology and had heard about our finds during our dig at CHET and wanted to hear more! We prepared poems, posters and google slides presentations for them to show them what we had found and what we thought the artefacts were. We were able to ask lots of questions about A.C.E and about university, giving us ideas about what we would like to do in the future. They were so impressed with us, that they phoned the professor of A.C.E and he said we could all be honorary members! So we all graduated wearing a cap and gown and were presented with certificates and a department badge!

Science - Wonderdome

We had a visit from the Wonderdome mobile planetarium where we were transported on a cosmic journey exploring the wonder of our universe! We learnt so much about our planets and our night sky.

PE - Biggest Ever Football Session

We took part in the biggest ever football session and showed our support for girls and women's football. We practised our skills, took part in challenges and had a penalty shoot out. We love football!

British Values - Tolerance and Respect

We have been learning about British Values and for our assembly, our class focussed on Tolerance and Respect. We learnt that tolerance means showing respect for others who are a different, race, religion, age or gender. And those who have opinions that aren't the same as ours. We are all entitled to our own views and we don't all have to agree on what we believe is best.

'Compassion and tolerance are not a sign of weakness, but a sign of strength' - Dalai Lama

World Book Day

This year each class learnt and performed a poem by Matt Goodfellow. We gathered together in the hall to watch each class perform their poem for the rest of the school. Ours was called 'Goggles'. We also held a book swap in class to celebrate our love of reading.

C.H.E.T

The Year 3 residential to CHET was a brilliant experience for everyone. The children made the most of every second and tried lots of activities they had never done before. We all came home shattered and ready for our own beds!! The top 3 activities voted for by the class were curling, rock climbing and the adventure course, followed closely by the rest including pizza making, campfire, shelter building, zip wire and even an archaeological dig!

Equality and Diversity

We have been learning about equality and diversity. We read the story of the two monsters and how each thought that they were right and the other was wrong and they just couldn't see things from the other's point of view. We realised that just because one person thinks they are right, it doesn't always mean that the other person is wrong. We all need to remember, equality is when we make sure that everyone is treated fairly. It does not mean that everyone has to be treated the same. We all agreed that we should everyone should learn to respect other people's viewpoints.

Science - Escape Room

We had a fantastic session with The Problem Solving Company to try and escape the room using  our science knowledge to help us solve the clues and unlock the boxes! We practised our communication and co-operation skills working in a team. We didn't manage to escape this time but we had great fun.

DT - Trashion Show

All children were challenged to take an old item and create a new product from it to help tackle the problem of sustainability and recycling. We had tie-dye t-shirts, bags, gloves, armbands, ties, jet-packs and headbands! It was a brilliant way to show that we can be more sustainable and friendly to our environment by recycling our old items into something new. Year 3 certainly enjoyed showing everyone their best moves!!

Inside Out Day

We all wore an item of clothing inside out to promote children's mental health awareness week. We wanted to show that how you look on the outside, doesn't always reflect what you are feeling on the inside. We know how important it is to talk to somebody about how you are feeling. Y3 took part in a nationwide assembly discussing children's mental health and how we can support each other. The theme this year was 'Know Yourself, Grow Yourself'.

Design Technology - Levers and Linkages

We have been working on making puppets using sliders, levers and linkages. First we had to look at some products then design our own. We had to look at a front view and a back view of the puppet and we used moving and fixed pivots in our products. We had to evaluate our end product and say what we liked and what we would change next time.

Christmas

We had a very busy time leading up to Christmas. We made cards, had a jumper day, a Santa Dash, a visit from Father Christmas and a party!

Light - Science

Y3 investigated  how the distance of the light source from the object can affect the length of the shadow. In this topic, Year 3 investigated which materials would make the best shadow puppets. They tested a range of material and gave reasons why it would or would not be good to use for a puppet. Then they made the puppet and judged it against the rest of the criteria in their challenge brief.

Children In Need - PSHE

Children gave a donation and wore pyjamas to support this year's Children In Need campaign

Friendship fortnight - PSHE

For this year's anti-bullying campaign we wore odd socks to encourage people to express themselves and celebrate their individuality and what makes us all unique! This was linked to all the work we did during our 'friendship fortnight.' This year, the theme was Choose Respect. We talked about how important it is to talk to other people and to be inclusive and kind and to respect others. We want everyone to Choose Respect.

Art - Cave Paintings

We used different media to create our own drawings and paintings in the style of cave art. We made our own colour wheels, added white and black to make colours lighter and darker, evaluated other art and used what we had learnt to create our own masterpiece!

Remembrance Day - Collective Worship

We gathered on 11th November to pay our respects to those who have lost their lives in wars and their families. We talked about the significance of wearing a red poppy and why it was so important to remember. We said prayers then at 11am, observed a 2 minute silence and reflected quietly.

Say No To Racism - PSHE

We wore red and blue to say 'NO' to racism. We discussed how everyone should be treated fairly and that we should treat others the way we would like to be treated. Racism does not have a voice in our school community and we will not tolerate it in any form.

Harvest Festival - Collective Worship

Year 3 led our school collective worship for the Harvest Festival. We gathered together and thought about how our actions, no matter how small they seem, can make a big difference to other people in our community. We thanked God for the farmers and their harvest, for the Sun and the rain. Most of all we thanked our families who donated lots of items for the foodbank to help people less fortunate than ourselves across Sefton. Thank you for your kindness everyone.

PE and Games

These athletes have been footballer and gymnast of the week and the girls represented our school at Goals for a football tournament. We also sent a fantastic team to enjoy a multi sports event. Well done everyone!

Hello Yellow - PSHE

To raise awareness of mental health we wore yellow and discussed ways in which we can feel less alone and have positive mental health. We recognised that it's so important to understand how we're feeling and find ways to feel better or support others who are struggling.

Art - Painting

For our art topic about cave paintings we have mixed paint colours and made collages using brown. We experimented with colour mixing to make brown and we created our own colour wheels.

Learn and Present - English/History

Y3 spent the day with Altru Drama learning all about Stone Age Britain as part of our History topic. Children helped write and then performed a play for the rest of the school based on what they had learnt in just one day. The boys and girls were brilliant and gave an excellent performance at the end of the day!

School Council Elections - Democracy

This week our pupils were able to put themselves forward for the important job of class councillor by submitting their form to state why they would be the best person to represent our class. Candidates were shortlisted to two boys and two girls by selected pupils in Year 6. Each person voted on who they would like to be our class councillors for the year and votes were counted, counted again and then verified to see who had gained the most votes! Congratulations to our elected class councillors!
