Wellbeing and Mental Health

Wellbeing and Mental Health at St Robert Bellarmine

At St Robert Bellarmine, we recognise that positive mental wellbeing and good mental health are essential to pupils’ learning, behaviour and overall development. We are committed to creating a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment where all pupils feel valued, supported and able to flourish.

We promote a whole-school culture of wellbeing, where positive relationships, respect and a sense of belonging are central. Staff are attentive to pupils’ emotional needs and work proactively to identify concerns at an early stage, recognising that mental health exists on a continuum and that pupils may need different levels of support at different times.

Mental wellbeing is supported through high-quality teaching, clear routines and a calm, predictable learning environment. Pupils are explicitly taught skills such as emotional literacy, self-regulation, resilience and coping strategies, helping them to understand and manage their feelings and behaviour effectively.

Targeted pastoral support is provided for pupils who need additional help, with appropriate interventions and access to trusted adults. Where concerns are more complex, we work closely with families and external professionals to ensure pupils receive timely and effective support.

By prioritising mental wellbeing and mental health, St Robert Bellarmine supports pupils to develop confidence, independence and positive attitudes to learning, enabling them to thrive both in school and beyond.
