But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

Summer Term
Ultimate Kids - Multi-Skills Fun
Year 3 loved getting outside and active with Ultimate Kids today. They worked a range of their skills that they learned in PE in Autumn 1 and had lots of fun!
Roman Artefacts
Year 3 enjoyed learning about Roman soldiers while exploring some artefacts. Each child had the chance to try on a gladius and galea. They all commented on how heavy the armour was and couldn't imagine fighting with these on!
Division Museum
Year 3 worked in groups to use resources to show different representations of division. They made choices about what they wanted to use and most children chose numicon, counters and bead strings for their representations.
Deaf Awareness Week
Year 3 wore yellow socks and other yellow items of clothes to raise awareness for Deaf Awareness Week.
Romans Play in a Day
Year 3 had a fantastic time yesterday learning all about the Romans, while also working extremely hard on a performance. They worked so well as a group and showed how much they already knew about the Romans. Well done Year 3!
DT - Forces Games
We had a fantastic day working with Steph to learn even more about forces and magnets. We first created an individual marble maze, before moving on to a magnetic fish game. It was a busy day, but we had a great time and can't wait to try out our two new games!
Maths - Number Lines
Year 3 loved their recap work on linear number lines this week. They were able to come up with their own number lines to match a criteria that they were given. We were so pleased with how well they worked in their groups!
Art - J.M.W. Turner
Year 3 have enjoyed exploring the art work and style of JMW Turner. They have been working on the development of their skills with tone and shade using water colours and oil pastels. Each child has worked extremely hard and created two pieces in JMW Turner's style. One was an extension of one of his paintings, while another one was created with their own sketch of our school playground.
Red Nose Day - Comic Relief
Year 3 had a brilliant day raising money for Comic Relief. They all came into school with crazy hair and also brought SO MANY donations of toiletries to help a local charity. We are very proud of how involved everyone was!

12 Books of Christmas

Big Christmas Toy Drive
Thank you to everyone in Year 3 for their generosity! We have received lots of donations to our toy collection - you have all shown the true meaning of Christmas!
Science - Light Investigation
Year 3 have been learning all about light and shadows this term. We put all our learning together to work out which material would be best to use to make a shadow puppet. We investigated a range of different materials including plain paper, washcloths, plastic bags and mirrors. We decided that the best material to use would be coloured card and made out fantastic puppets!
Trashion Show DT Project
Year 3 made a HUGE effort with all of their Trashion Show pieces. They met the design criteria and have blown us away with their creativity. Lots of children even used their sewing skills to recycle their old clothes. They really enjoyed the fashion show too!
DT Week
Textiles
We have started our project to make a Christmas decoration to make someone smile this Christmas. We are going through each of the stages to make our piece match the design criteria.
Evaluate other designs
We looked at four types of decorations and evaluated each. We talked about the strengths and weaknesses of each before completing a 'So What?' section to come up with how we would complete our own.
Cutting Skills
We worked on cutting out along a range of lines and patterns. This will help us cut out our chosen shape for our decoration.
Sewing Skills
We used sheets of binca to practise a running stitch. We will use these new skills to join our two pieces of felt together.
Design
We planned out our designs by sketching and labelling in our DT sketch books.
Making our Decoration
We have applied all of our learning and new skills to make a Christmas decoration for someone at home to make them smile. We joined the pieces of our decoration using a running stitch. We then stuffed each decoration ready for the detail to be added. Once the detail was added, we evaluated our designs.
Advent
Collective Worship
We celebrated a Collective Worship to mark the beginning of the Liturgical year, Advent. We talked about the importance of the Advent wreath and candles. Each child made four promises for this Advent period. They made a promise to enable them to give hope, find peace, show love and spread joy.
Friendship Fortnight
Year 3 have loved celebrating Friendship Fortnight this year!
To begin, we all made birthday cards for a local woman called Muriel. Muriel celebrated her 100th birthday this month but due to Covid-19 she was going to be alone so we wanted her to know that she has at least 29 friends in Year 3.
We then wore odd socks to stand united against bullying! We talked a lot about how it is never okay to be a bully and how we all stand up against bullies in real life and online! In PSHE, we also talked about the importance of the phrase 'Be Share Aware' when using the internet and social media. We only share kind comments and things with our friends when we use social media.
To put all of our learning together we created our own presentations using Google Slides to help other children 'Be Share Aware'.
Children in Need
The children loved celebrating Children in Need by wearing their pyjamas and Pudsey related accessories to school. Our class raised over £70! We enjoyed a Collection Worship to pray for all the children around the UK. We are so happy to have been able to help them!
Give Racism the Red (or Blue) Card.
Year 3 have gotten fully involved in giving racism the red card! We talked about why it is important to treat everyone fairly and to do what we can to stand up against injustice. We learned about what the 'Black Lives Matter' movement stands for and also read a story about Rosa Parks. The children were all so proud of Rosa and said they wanted to be like her in standing up for what is right!
We also prayed together and decorated our own prayers to help all of those fighting against injustice.
Harvest Festival and Collective Worship
Year 3 asked everyone in our school community to donate any food that they could to help other people. We have been blown away by all the donations and are so grateful! Thank you so much to our school families for what you have given. We celebrated a Collective Worship to give thanks for the Harvest and thank God for what we have.
Macmillan Coffee Morning
We had a Macmillan Coffee morning with a bit of a twist in Year 3 this year. The children were so generous with their donations! We held a collective worship in the hall to think about all of those living with cancer and the people who support them. We then enjoyed some cakes to help raise money for such a worthy cause.
Hello Yellow - World Mental Health Day
Year 3 celebrated World Mental Health Day by wearing yellow. We had a lovely day! We talked about all the people they have in their lives who are there to support then and then talked about our Resilient Powers.
History
Play in a Day
Year 3 had an amazing day learning lots about changes that took place from the Ice Age to the Iron Age. They learned about changes that took place in the Stone Age and can talk about differences between the Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic Ages.
History and Art
The children enjoyed the process of creating their Stone Age Cave Art. Over a series of lessons, they created a backwash for their drawing, experimented with sketching and shading using different materials and completed a final piece of work. They learned lots about the importance of Cave Art in teaching us about the past as well!
School Council Elections
Congratulations to Teigan and Louis on their election to the School Council this year. We are very lucky to have them representing our class!
Well done to all the candidates who took part!
