African Drumming 

Year 6 made the most of the good weather and spent their music lesson in the sun! 

Judo 

Year 6 enjoyed a really informative judo session focused on staying safe. They key message that was shared and remembered was RUN, YELL, TELL.

Comic Relief - Mad Hair Day 

World Book Day

World Book Day in Year 6 was lots of fun! Everyone brought in their favourite books from home and shared them with the class, sparking lots of conversations about stories we love. We also explored a range of poems about feelings and enjoyed performing some of these for one another. Throughout the day, we had several moments of DEAR (Drop Everything and Read), where everyone paused to get lost in a good book. It was a lovely day celebrating the joy of reading together.

Year 6 also had an amazing morning with author Frank Cottrell-Boyce, learning all about his new book. The children listened to extracts, heard some fantastic stories, witnessed a little real-life magic, and asked lots of thoughtful questions. Some children were even lucky enough to receive a signed copy! The visit was incredibly inspiring and has definitely sparked a love of writing—many of our pupils are now dreaming of becoming authors in the future.

Equality and Diversity Assembly 

Year 6 presented their learning so far this year linked to Equality and Diversity for their parents and the rest of our school. They finished their presentation with an African drumming performance and were amazing!

Year of Reading - Book Share 

Year 6 took part in a book share and it was a great success! Each child got to take home at least 4 new books to read as part of our celebration of the Year of Reading. 

DT Textiles 

Year 6 made pencil cases as part of their learning on textiles. They used felt as their main material and joined this with thread. As part of their learning they recapped on their knowledge of a range of stitch types from previous years: running stitch, over stitch and back stitch. Each child created their own design and included applique to add further detail to their work. They chose the best stitch to use based on the needs of their product and produced some excellent work.

Holocaust Remembrance Day

Year 6 had a meaningful morning at @PlazaCinema to commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day. They watched An Island on Bird Street, which had a powerful impact on the children and sparked thoughtful discussions about kindness, empathy, and how we should treat others.

Play in a Day - Romeo and Juliet 

Year 6 put on a show-stopping performance for the rest of our school, with Romeo and Juliet. Every child spoke clearly, remembered their lines and remained in character throughout. This drama- focused day was a brilliant way for them to explore our new text in more detail and they really had a fantastic time! 

Maths - Geometry Problem Solving

Year 6 worked in groups to solve some interesting geometry problems. They worked systematically to find the solutions, discussed using mathematical mutterings and discussed all the possibilities that they could find!

Christmas Celebrations

Design Technology - Fairgrounds 

Year 6 worked hard with Steph on their DT projects to make fairground models. They linked their learning in Science (electricity) to create complete circuits to power their models. 

Other Faiths - Judaism

Year 6 joined Year 1 on a visit to Dunbabin Road Synagogue to learn more about the Jewish faith and to find out more about what is inside a synagogue. We learned lots of new terms such as bimah and yad while also recapping on our knowledge from previous years work.

Macmillan Coffee Morning and Hello Yellow

We had a double awareness day in Year 6 with everyone wearing yellow for World Mental Health Day while also raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Charity. We were blwon away by the geneorisity of our children and their families and feel so blessed to be part of such a wonderful community.

Girls Football Team 

Well done to the girls who took part in the LFC Foundation's 'We Empower Mini League Kick Off Tournament' this week. They came third place overall and were excellent ambassadors of our school. 

Moel Famau - Sponsored Walk 

What a fantastic day we had at Moel Famau! The weather was perfect and everyone thoroughly enjoyed pushing themselves to the top of Moel Famau. Year 6 have successfully raised enough money to purchase 5 Cafod World Gifts to teach others to read thorugh their determination on this walk. 

Science - Light Investigation

Year 6 have been working scientifically to find out if light can bend or if it will travel only in a straight line. They all used their prior knowledge from Y3 to predict that it can only travel in straight lines and that opaque objects will block light.

Feast of St Robert Bellarmine 

The children from Year 2 to Year 6 attended mass to celebrate the Feast Day for St Robert Bellarmine. This mass also gave us the opportunity to join with our parish community to begin our year together. 

During the mass, our Year 6 prefects, Sports leaders and School Councillors were awarded their badges to help them start their work to support our school this year. 

Hokusai Mission Display

For our Mission Display this year, Year 6 studied the work of Japanese artist Hokusai. They recreated his work, 'The Wave' to represent how our school mission statements can help guide them through the year.

Zero the Hero 

Today in Maths, Year 6 were reminding themselves about the importance of Zero the Hero when calculating in a range of ways!

School Council Elections 

Democracy has been in action! Our Year 6 children voted for their councillors who will represent them this year. Well done to everyone who put themselves forward!
