They performed Storm and Harvest on the Djembe drums to celebrate the many African cultures they have learned about in music each week.

Romeo and Juliet - Play in a Day

Year 6 put on a show-stopping performance for the rest of our school, with Romeo and Juliet. Every child spoke clearly, remembered their lines and remained in character throughout. Electricity

We have been working on finding out the factors that affect the brightness of a bulb in science this week. First, we looked at how increasing the voltage and number of cells can lead to an increase in the brightness of a bulb, but found that sharing batteries between light bulbs had varying impacts. We also investigated to find out if any other factors such as the length of a wire can impact on the brightness of a bulb and had a great time doing it!

Trashion Show

Year 6 had the chance to strut their stuff on the runway for this years Trashion Show! They came up with some fantastic ideas to show off their creativity and sustainability. Each child worked hard to design their clothing and also made sure that they made environmentally conscious choices in what they wore.

Prevent Assembly

Year 6 presented a British Values assembly to our whole school focused on Prevent. They reminded all the children about the importance of being vigilant and being aware that there are people in our society who do not hold the same British Values as us and therefore have more extreme views. They also reminded everyone that in our school we have many adults that we can trust and talk to if we feel unsafe or concerned about anything.

Children in Need

The children came to school in their pyjamas along with the rest of our school to raise money for Children in Need. Everyone was incredibly generous and had a great day raising the funds too!

Other Faiths - Judaism

Year 6 joined Year 2 on a visit to Dunbabin Road Synagogue to learn more about the Jewish faith and to find out more about what is inside a synagogue. We learned lots of new terms such as bimah and yad while also recapping on our knowledge from previous years work.

Science - Light Investigation

We are learning about light in Year 6 and have used our prior knowledge from Year 3 to support us in designing our first investigation. We were presented with the investigation question 'Can you change the size and shape of a shadow?' We used appropriate equipment to carry out a fair test to answer the questions.

We were able to identify that while we can change the size of a shadow in relation to a light source.

Odd Socks Day

Year 6 supported Anti-Bullying week by wearing odd socks to school today. They were proud to share the ways that we are different and know that celebrating who we are and accepting others is really important!

Design Technology - Fairgrounds

Year 6 worked hard with Steph on their DT projects to make fairground models. They linked their learning in Science (electricity) to create complete circuits to power their models.

Say No to Racism

Year 6 joined the rest of our school in wearing red and blue so that we can stand up against racism.

Mixed Media Collage Artwork

Year 6 have worked incredibly hard on their art work both in class for the last few weeks and during an art day that we had with Jackie from SIL. Each child created a personalised collage using inspiration from the quote 'God gave you a fingerprint that no one else has, so you can leave an imprint that no one else can.' They used pictures and memories to create their collage, then covered them in gesso primer, before using acrylic paints to cover over the work so that each memory could be personal and special to each child. We then took prints of our thumbs and transferred these on to our canvases to highlight each of our unique imprints.

We invited the Year 6 parents and the other classes in the school to come in and view our finished pieces and everyone in Year 6 is feeling so proud of all they have achieved.

Year 6 School Councillors

Congratulations to our School Councillors, Esme and Thomas, on their appointment to the School Council.

Moel Famau

Year 6 had a fantastic walk up Moel Famau to start their year off right. This important tradition is a great way for Year 6 to gain confidence, come together as a group and prepare for the challenges ahead.

Hokusai Mission Display

For our Mission Display this year, Year 6 studied the work of Japanese artist Hokusai. They recreated his work, 'The Wave' to represent how our school mission statements can help guide them through the year.

Get Away N Get Safe Workshop

James Riley (The Gangs Man) visited Year 6 for a week of workshops to help them be Brave and Confident at all times. They learned about the importance of keeping themselves safe and not being drawn in to making poor choices

As part of the workshop, ITV Grenada Reports also paid them a visit and showed interviews with our Year 6s and Mrs Dowell.

Macmillan Coffee Morning

Year 6 were incredibly generous with their donations for the Macmillan Coffee Morning that we held in class. Each child enjoyed the morning and felt proud of how much money they managed to raise!

History - The Vikings

Year 6 had a fantastic day working with Altru Drama to learn and perform a 'Play in a Day'. Each child played a part and not only did they develop their acting skills, but they also developed their knowledge of the Vikings!

Hello Yellow - Mental Health Awareness

Year 6 joined in the fun on Friday 7th and wore yellow to school. This was so we could raise awareness about looking after your mental health. As you can see from the smiles on their faces, they had a lovely day! We talked about the importance of looking out for our mental and physical health and explored some of the things that we can do to help.
