  • Letter to Parents 14 May 2020 - Update on government guidance

    Thu 14 May 2020

    14 May 2020

    Dear Parents,

Hope you are well and taking care.

You will have heard the government announcement on Sunday about School opening to more children at the earliest from the 1 June. We have been looking at the guidance very carefully and have been planning how best to work with this to support the government priorities in helping more children to go back to school and in helping families who are key workers, and children who are vulnerable to attend school.

We have risk assessed this situation to take into account the safety of children, staff and families. We have a limited capacity and a reduced number of staff available. Therefore we can offer a limited number of places under the following criteria.

    1. Pupils where either parent is a member of NHS frontline staff eg doctors and nurses
    2. Pupils who have a social worker or are known to the school to be extremely vulnerable
    3. Pupils where both parents are on the key worker list
    4. Pupils where one parent is on the key worker list

You will have heard on the news that different year groups have been prioritised aswell  ie Reception, Y1 and Y6. It is our intention to offer the first places to children from families from the above criteria and then if there are any surplus places we will plan to give places to children from Reception, Y1 and Y6.

We need to emphasise, this is purely VOLUNTARY for parents. There is NO requirement that you take a place even if you are eligible. The best and safest place for your children is still at home.

Home learning will continue to be given through the school website for all year groups. You will still be encouraged to work with your children whenever possible and to maintain contact with their Teachers through the class emails. The children who attend school will only be given the same work which has been set for their Home learning. We will not be in a position to teach the usual curriculum, this is for childcare in the main.

If your child does attend school, they will be organised into small groups of 10. The children will spend the day with their group; they will stay in the same room, will have the same adults working with them, will have staggered breaks and lunchtimes, they will eat lunch in their class area. There is no guarantee that the children will be with their original class teacher or Teaching Assistant or with their class mates. There may be some mixed age groups.

There will be NO Breakfast Club at the moment.

School will be closed to ALL children on Fridays in order for the school to be deep cleaned and resources re-organised for the following week.

Please remember, this is not compulsory, it is your choice as a parent if you need your child to return to school.

Please bear in mind that this is all very new for us too. We would like nothing better than to be providing our usual schooling and way of delivery. However you can appreciate this is just not possible at the moment. We will review this offer by the end of June and please understand that it may well be subject to changes as we see how the virus develops and whether we always have enough staff to cope with the number of children in school.

In order to move ahead with the planning for this, we need to know by 1pm Friday 15 May if you are eligible and are intending to let your child return to school.

    Can you email finance.strobertbellarmine@schools.sefton.gov.uk

    Please indicate

I would like my child to attend school from 1 June.

I am eligible under criteria ______.

I can/have provided proof of eligibility.

    Kind regards,

    Mairead Dowell

  • Letter to Parents 7 May 2020

    Thu 07 May 2020

    7 May 2020

    Dear Parents,

The end of another week in lockdown! Hope you and your families are coping with the strains and staying well and safe.

Thanks once again for your support in helping your children to manage their home learning. I know many of you are rising to the challenge and I can see from the Tweets and class email communications that the children are enjoying many of the activities. The staff have managed now to provide activities from most curriculum areas so please continue to encourage your children to do the basics (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Maths) and any of the other subjects which they enjoy.

There are additional resources on the SEND page of the website if you need them.

We are also sending an additional leaflet about online safety because we are aware that children are spending much more time on different devices and online. Can I emphasise the importance of you continuing to monitor their online activity, whether it is online gaming, mobile phones or laptops, as this is more important than ever.

As you know it's Bank Holiday VE day on Friday, so it would be lovely to see if you do anything to celebrate this in your homes.

We are all waiting for an announcement from the government on Sunday about any changes to the lockdown situation. We will obviously respond to this as soon as we know what they have decided for schools.

Please can any parents who are eligible as key workers to send their children to school contact school by 3pm today (Thursday) if possible so we can plan staffing. If you need Breakfast Club please inform school. Please use finance.strobertbellarmine@schools.sefton.gov.uk to contact school in the next week.

Parents can you continue to keep in touch with the Teachers using the class email addresses.

    Have a lovely weekend!

    Kind regards,

    Mairead Dowell

  • Letter to Parents 30 April 2020

    Fri 01 May 2020

    30th April

    Dear Parents,

Another week goes by in lockdown! I hope you and your families are staying safe and well. I appreciate we are all watching the news each day and praying that things improve for us all and that there will be some movement towards normality. However, as far as I can see, there is still no clear idea of how and when schools will open to the whole school population, or even to a partial opening.

Teachers have continued to work really hard organising and planning the home learning. Again this will be ready for Monday morning. There is a wide variety of activities and subjects on offer on your class pages. I understand that this can be difficult for some of you to find time to support your children, for a variety of reasons, but if you can't manage all of the activities, continue to prioritise the Reading, Spelling, English and Maths work. I hope the timetable for each class is helpful, but again don't worry if you can't commit huge amounts of time, we understand everyone has different commitments and family circumstances. If anyone needs additional exercise books to complete work in, we can arrange for them to be collected from the office.

This week all of the Teachers have tried to phone each family to see how you are getting on. I know many of you have appreciated the contact and the opportunity to talk through things. The Teachers have told me that they have spoken to the vast majority of Parents but when the phone has not been answered, where possible they have left a message. If you think you have not been contacted, please email your Teacher using the new Class email address I sent earlier this week.

    Y1@strobertbellarmine.co.uk

    Y2@strobertbellarmine.co.uk

    Y3@strobertbellarmine.co.uk

    Y4@strobertbellarmine.co.uk

    Y5@strobertbellarmine.co.uk

    Y6@strobertbellarmine.co.uk

We very much hope that you will find it easier to be in touch with the Class Teacher now there is an individual class email. We would really like each child to share at least 1 piece of work each week with their Teacher who can then reply to the child. Hopefully this will be an incentive so that the children know we really haven't forgotten about them!

Anyone who is still having problems with their Free School Meal vouchers, can you next week contact finance.strobertbellarmine@schools.sefton.gov.uk.

We are still enjoying seeing all the Tweets you send. Please keep them coming! It helps us to stay in touch.

Please can you contact school with any issues either through the new class email, or next week on the email above. There may not always be someone in the office to answer the phone.

Finally, can those parents who are eligible as key workers to send their children to school, please inform us by email to admin.strobertbellarmine@schools.sefton.gov.uk by 3pm Friday if you want your child to attend school. This is to ensure we can plan staff rotas. Also let us know if you need Breakfast club.

    Have a good weekend!

    Kind regards

    Mairead Dowell
